Name
Identifying Violative Activity and Assessing Risk: Terrorism and Violent Extremism
Description

Countering terrorism and violent extremism online has advanced significantly in recent years, both in terms of individual company efforts, as well as cross-platform and multistakeholder efforts. Before trust and safety teams make decisions on whether a specific case violates terms of service and what interventions should be put in place, cases have to be identified and prioritized. Often there is a challenge of optimizing these systems to act quickly in reducing online harm, while also mitigating potential human rights concerns around privacy, over-censorship, or undue targeting of specific communities. The market for doing this work globally and at scale is very broad and complex. This panel discusses where hybrid moderation models have evolved, where adversarial shifts are taking place, and what this means for the future of trust and safety efforts for individual platforms and collaboration models, such as the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT).
