Many companies rely on internal metrics, and for Trust & Safety, metrics are vital for tracking operations, measuring impact, and evaluating the success of interventions and policies. However, few companies utilize one key vector for informational gain: surveys. While a standard tenet of social science, surveys are underutilized and underinvested in across tech platforms; yet the adoption of surveys for evaluating Trust & Safety success can result in significant gains in understanding user motivations, needs, and perceptions, as well as evaluating key informational and social outcomes of essential Trust & Safety product work. This session will provide an overview of survey methods and infrastructure and apply it to the Trust & Safety space, demonstrating why companies should invest more, what metrics they can build from survey measurement, and how they can improve product knowledge and strategy through this data collection method.
