Afsaneh Rigot is the Founder and Principal Researcher at the De|Center. She is also the creator of the Design From the Margins methodology. Her work focuses on law, human rights, and technology issues especially highly marginalized populations. As an experienced researcher, and facilitator, she addresses the negative effects of technology in contexts it was not designed for and the effects of western-centrism on vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities. Her work pushes tech companies to engage in effective corporate responsibility, harm reduction, and community-centered research through her work on Design from the Margins.
Previously, Afsaneh was a Senior Researcher and Advisor at ARTICLE 19 on human rights issues with a focus on LGBTQ rights and corporate responsibility. She is an advisor to the Cyberlaw Clinic at Harvard Law School and is on boards and committees of a number of human rights initiatives.
