Ali is part of the Online Safety Group at Ofcom, the UK's independent regulator responsible for implementing the new Online Safety Act. Within Ofcom's growing Supervision team, he heads up the Promoting Compliance programme, which aims to make the new regulations more accessible for all organisations in scope of the rules.
Last year, Ali led Ofcom's draft Risk Assessment Guidance for illegal content, which was published in November 2023 and outlines our approach to this central new legal duty. Prior to joining Ofcom, he worked at the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, running policy projects ranging from Covid-19 data handling, to facial recognition technology. He started his career in communications and public affairs.
