World-class content moderation is critical to delivering safe, trustworthy experiences to users. The technology employed plays an important role. This technology can be considered two-fold: 1. “Back-end”, such as image recognition, digital hash technology, metadata filter, language processing, etc. and 2. “Front-end” technology; the application or software used by content reviewers (analysts and others) to complete tasks, which can range from enabling and managing automation to completing investigations and determining verdicts. The user experience of the front-end technology plays a role in efficacy, accuracy, turnaround time and wellbeing. Following years of research, interviews, content audits and partnerships, we propose four primary UX guidelines to support T&S teams develop the optimum experience for content reviewers within the content moderation process. Our goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Trust and Safety, while simultaneously ensuring a supportive, positive and safe work environment for those doing the content review work.
