Name
How Much Context? Engineering Metaverse Investigation & Review Tooling at Meta
Description

This talk is part of the TrustCon 2024 Investigations & Authenticity Lightning Talk session. Lightning talk sessions are 50 minutes long, featuring a series of short 5-7 minute talks back-to-back in the same room, followed by Q&A at the end.

In 2023, Meta's Horizon Worlds grew rapidly, becoming one of the 10 most used apps in the Quest store. In this talk, I'll share my experience over the last 2 years building tooling to allow Integrity teams at Meta to investigate, address, and review reports of abuse in our Metaverse experiences. I'll discuss the unique challenges involved in investigating safety issues in 3D, synchronous worlds and the complexity in considering how much context is "just right" to enable accurate decision-making at scale; I'll share the data-driven approach we've used to find that balance. I'll conclude with a look forward to how the Metaverse may evolve over the next few years, offering thoughts on how we might get ready. Hopefully, this talk will be a window into the present and future of Trust & Safety for the Metaverse and provide ideas for best-practices that T&S professionals can follow.
