Historically, platforms have limited policy enforcement to content and behaviors that occur on-site, with the exception of legally mandated regulations like OFAC Sanctions. However, mounting public pressure has resulted in more sites banning users based on their off-platform behavior. In this immersive 120-minute workshop, you'll collaborate to tackle the question: Should companies consider off-platform behavior, and if so, how? Representing specific roles within a fictitious company, each group will balance platform liability, PR risk, investigative costs and requirements, and community sentiment while they develop a comprehensive policy, exploring questions such as:
- Which off-platform behaviors, if any, should result in on-platform consequences?
- What evidence should be required to take action?
Through this hands-on experience, you'll gain insights into the complexities associated with developing a policy of this kind, as well as the evolving landscape of platform responsibility.
This workshop is intended to be cross functional and represent the various perspectives involved in writing a Trust and Safety policy. Attendees who have worked in Legal, Public Policy, Operations, Voice of the Customer, as well as Trust and Safety Operations will all be able to contribute their perspectives. While Trust & Safety experience is helpful, all perspectives are welcome!
