Reporting, blocking, muting, hiding, unfollowing, restricting… there are many ways in which platforms have designed and implemented user-facing safety action tools. However, these tools have not changed much in over a decade of innovative and unique platform design. Where’s the innovation? This panel will unite Trust & Safety designers, engineers, and researchers to discuss the landscape of user safety tools and debate the state of the market. Are these tools enough, and are users satisfied with how they work? How can we improve upon these safety tools to ensure greater user agency, wider community adoption, better user insights, and stronger intervention effectiveness? Further, what other design futures can we imagine: what do users need and want to see out of platforms to help support them with more safety features?
