This talk is part of a two-presentation session running from 1:30 PM - 2:20 PM. The session will feature two presentations back-to-back, with Q&A after each presentation.
In 2023 and in early 2024, Discord designed and launched a warning-based enforcement system for both users and servers. Discord developed clear policy violation classifications for more understandable enforcement, and an account standing page to help users comprehend their status and available remediation paths. This presentation will discuss the design and internal policies of our warning-based system, and how we weighed tradeoffs in retention, remediation, and harm. It will also cover the metrics we used to measure success, and the use of causal inference methods to measure the effects of this enforcement change on our business and safety metrics.
