The urgency to quantify the severity of online abuse is increasing within both enterprises and governments. In response, TrustLab received a commission from the signatories of the EU’s 2022 Code of Practice on Disinformation to conduct its inaugural empirical measurement of structural indicators. Across six major social media platforms in Poland, Slovakia, and Spain, TrustLab assessed the prevalence and sources of disinformation. Our presentation offers an overview of the TrustLab project's key metrics and findings and highlights the invaluable insights obtained through cross-platform comparison. This comparative approach equips trust and safety professionals to comprehend the industry landscape and proactively address online abuse. We will delve into methodological innovations and challenges of cross-platform comparisons, setting the stage for more systematic comparative analyses. Our project aims to empower users and lawmakers with robust evidence, foster cross-sector collaboration, and advance trust and safety measurement methodologies.
