Name
UX Research in Trust & Safety: Challenges and Opportunities
Description

T&S teams often include individuals dedicated to policy, legal, product management, content moderation, and engineering. But what is the place of a UX Researcher, whose job traditionally focuses on understanding user needs? This panel will focus on the unique challenges + opportunities of UX research in T&S through a conversation with researchers at Google, YouTube, and Meta. Topics include:

  • Rethinking research methods - How do you conduct ethical research on sensitive topics, like suicide + self harm content, child safety, or misinformation
  • Redefining goals/metrics - Traditional UX research focuses on goals like increasing user engagement or satisfaction, but there may be additional markers of success in T&S. How do UX researchers redefine goals/metrics for the T&S domain?
  • Partnership with T&S roles - Where and how do UX researchers partner with more traditional roles in T&S, like detection, policy development, policy enforcement, and content moderation teams?
