For nearly two decades, the Trust and Safety ( T&S) field has focused on helping social media, online marketplaces, dating apps, and games, among others protect users from myriad harms. Even when companies build up their T&S teams, they are often equipped with outdated and ineffective tools that fail to keep pace with the ever-changing online ecosystem. Instead of relying solely on proprietary, internally-developed, and/or venture-funded vendor solutions, the T&S field must urgently develop shared open source tools. They will not only help younger companies adopt T&S practices earlier on by reducing costs, but also promote interoperability and innovative solutions. There is an urgent need for a centralized hub or accelerator to build this free, open-source software to fulfill key needs in T&S tooling stack. All panel participants are confirmed.
