“Targeted violence is preventable when communities are equipped with the appropriate tools, training, and resources to intervene before violence occurs." Since 2006, more than 2,896 people have lost their lives due to mass violence in the U.S. Many involved in committing these crimes leak their intentions of killing others through media. This presentation will educate participants on the Pathway to Violence. Participants will be provided a framework to identify risk levels and how to communicate concerns to law enforcement. Participants will choose their preferred practice method (i.e., large vs. small group) when identifying signals indicating someone is on the Pathway. The practice-based scenario relies on a real-world example media post.
Participants will:
- Be able to identify/explain the 6 elements of the Pathway to Violence
- Understand signals to identify where someone is on the Pathway
- Understand how to communicate concerns and partner in preventing attacks with law enforcement
