Our research sheds light on the growing phenomenon of AI-generated news, focusing on the Clayton County Register, and others alike as a case study. Our findings reveal that this site, ostensibly a local news source, is in reality a breeding ground for AI-produced financial news targeting retail investors. The analysis highlights the implausibly high output of its AI 'authors' compared to human journalists, casting serious doubts about their authenticity. Further, we delve into the Register's strategic use of search engine manipulation and social media influence, notably on Reddit, to broaden its reach. Alarmingly, these tactics, as evidenced in our research, are poised to play a significant role in the upcoming 2024 elections, potentially impacting election integrity on a large scale. This investigation not only unmasks the deceptive strategies of AI-driven news platforms but also arms readers with essential insights to discern genuine journalism in an increasingly AI-saturated news landscape.
