This talk is part of the TrustCon 2024 Child Safety Lightning Talk session. Lightning talk sessions are 50 minutes long, featuring a series of short 5-7 minute talks back-to-back in the same room, followed by Q&A at the end.
In this lightning talk, we’ll introduce a free, open-source tool called “Hasher Matcher Actioner (HMA)” designed to expedite the time it takes digital platforms to address harms like child sexual abuse material (CSAM) detection with hashing and matching. We will provide a basic understanding of hashing algorithms, demo how HMA enables platforms to efficiently start hashing content, and explore integrations with exchanges like NCMEC and Lantern. Tailored for engineers, this presentation will not only cover the theoretical underpinnings but also include a concise demonstration of the tool in action, followed by actionable steps for implementation. Join us to discover how your platform can leverage this core technology to enhance your platform’s approach to child safety (and beyond!) and contribute to a safer digital environment.
