This talk is part of a two-presentation session running from 4:10 PM - 5:00 PM. The session will feature two presentations back-to-back, with Q&A after each presentation.
The Coalition for Independent Technology Research (CITR) is a new organization of more than 350 researchers—including academics, nonprofit researchers, journalists and community scientists—working to advance, defend and sustain independent research into the impacts of technology on society. In this session, we'll teach you how to build equitable partnerships with independent technology researchers and inspire you with concrete examples of how these collaborations have led to better trust and safety outcomes on important issues like election integrity, public health, and protecting vulnerable community members online. This session will also explore existing models for collaboration between independent researchers and platform security teams in the cybersecurity realm as a frame for collaboratively imagining how partnerships could be supported in the trust & safety realm through the development of data access tools, legal safe harbours and other means.
