Leaders of safety teams and organizations face an impossible dilemma: the work aims to reduce harm and, also, the work causes harm. Industry experience and research confirm that online safety work poses real risks to people and systems who undertake the work. What are the skills and mindsets that safety leaders will need to develop and hone in order to navigate this ongoing dilemma in alignment with their values and ethics? We will propose a vision for trauma-informed and resilience-oriented leadership that supports leaders to hold and navigate this paradox.
