Name
Addressing Online Gender-Based Violence through Platform Design
Description

Online gender-based violence (OGBV) is a global pervasive issue which has gathered attention across countries, sectors, and citizens alike. Simultaneously, Safety by Design
frameworks are gaining more traction across organisations to tackle a range of online harm types. This panel aims to discuss the potential for Safety by Design measures in platform design to address OGBV specifically.

Through this discussion, we hope to contextualise learnings and case studies around how Safety by Design can be practically applied to address harms, where existing design may be enabling harm, and what the future of Safety by Design could look like, with a focus on OGBV. The panel brings together a diverse set of experts that represent different sectors (nonprofits, academics, platforms) and expertise (OGBV, Product Design, Policy, Safety by Design) to share best practices in embedding Safety by Design and in tackling OGBV. In exchanging lessons learned, best practices, and our varied viewpoints, we look forward to encouraging discourse and action around using Safety by Design to tackle OGBV.
